FIU used a pair of three-run frames to defeat Manhattan 7-3 in game one.
The Golden Panthers plated three runs in the second inning in taking the early 3-0 lead.
After being retired in order over the first three frames, the Jaspers finally broke through with a run in the fourth inning. Senior Jose Carrera (Miami, FL / St. Brendan) led off with a single before moving to second on a Fabian Pena (So., Miami, FL / Calusa Prep) single. Carrera then scored on a Matt Forlow (Cold Spring, NY / Haldane) fielder's choice, crossing the plate on an error throw.
FIU got that run back in the bottom of the fourth in extending the lead out to 4-1.
The Manhattan bats again went silent, producing just one hit over the next three frames before a two-out rally got the visitors to within one in the eighth. With two outs and junior Adam Genners (Jacksonville, FL / Stanton College Prep) at second, Carrera crushed a triple to right field. Pena then picked up Carrera with RBI double down the left field line, trimming the deficit to 4-3.
Unfortunately, the Golden Panthers answered with three runs on one hit and one big error in producing the aforementioned 7-3 final.
Carrera was 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs while Pena was 2-for-4 with a RBI double to lead the Jasper offense.
Freshman RHP Nick Massa (Shrewsbury, NJ / Red Bank Regional) struck out two over 3.2 of two-hit relief to pace the Manhattan pitchers.
Derek Cartaya was 2-for-4 with a triple and four RBI while Kobe Lopez went 2-for-5 with 2 RBI to highlight a 10-hit FIU offense.
LHP Dominic LoBrutto struck out eight while yielding two runs, one earned, on two hits over 7.2 innings of work.
Game Two

Fueled by a four-run fifth inning, the Golden Panthers defeated the Jaspers 5-3 in game two.
Manhattan opened the scoring in the nightcap, striking for a run in the top of the first. Carrera led off with a single before moving to third on a Forlow single. Later in the frame with two outs, junior Ryan Gronlier (Doral, FL / Doral Academy) picked up Carrera with a RBI single.
FIU would tie the game up in the bottom of the third as Adam Sevario led off with a single before moving to second on a throwing error. After being pushed to third on a sacrifice bunt, Sevario would come around to score on a Lopez's RBI ground out.
The Golden Panthers then took their first lead of the game in the fifth, loading up the bases with one out before Lopez delivered a RBI single. FIU would add three more runs in opening up a 5-1 lead.
In the top of the sixth, the Jaspers got two of those runs back in trimming the deficit to 5-3. Forlow and junior Michael Pfenninger (Flemington, NJ / Hunterdon Central) each walked to lead off the frame before senior Jason Patnick (Hopewell, NJ / IMG Academy (FL)) singled with one out in loading up the bases. Junior Brendan Bisset (New City, NY / Don Bosco Prep (NJ)) followed with a RBI fielder's choice to plate Forlow before sophomore Anthony Rocchietti (Green Brook, NJ / Watchung Hills) chased home Pfenninger with a RBI single.
Unfortunately, that would be as close as Manhattan would get as FIU completed the doubleheader sweep by stranding one in the seventh.
Forlow singled, walked and scored to pace a six-hit Jasper attack. Junior LHP Tom Cosgrove (Staten Island, NY / Farrell) was saddled with the loss, striking out six over 6.0 innings.
Sevario and Valdes each had three hits to lead an eight-hit FIU attack.
Andrew George fanned five while yielding three runs over 6.0 innings in earning the win.
