Manhattan Returns To MAAC Play Against Canisius

Wappingers Falls, NY - Manhattan (7-17; 1-2 MAAC) welcomes reigning MAAC Champion Canisius (13-15; 4-2 MAAC) to Dutchess Stadium for a three-game series this weekend.

It's Been A While
The teams didn't play last year and last met in 2014 with the Golden Griffins winning all three games in Buffalo. 

Name Recognition, Not So Much
Just five players, including two pitchers, from Canisius has game action against the Jaspers.

The Last Link
Senior Michael Scarinci is the lone remaining player from Manhattan's 2012 MAAC Championship squad that defeated the Golden Griffins twice to earn the program's third league title. Additionally, that year he fired a complete game shutout in leading the Jaspers to a series victory.

Santisteban Keeps Smashing
MAAC Preseason Player of the Year Christian Santisteban has hit safely in nine-straight and is batting .500 (16-of-32) during that time with 10 runs, four doubles, four RBI and six walks while posting a .575 OBP. On the year, he leads the squad in hitting (.363), runs (20), hits (33), walks (16), slugging (.495) and OBP (.459) while also adding nine doubles, one home run and 13 RBI.

Impressive
Santisteban has reached base safely in all but one game this season.

Pena At The Plate
3x MAAC Rookie of the Week freshman Fabian Pena is batting .319 (29-of-91) with a team-leading 10 doubles, two home runs and 19 RBI while matching Santisteban's .495 slugging percentage.

Pena Behind The Plate
Last weekend against Monmouth, Pena threw out five-of-seven runners on the bases and has gunned out 62.1 percent (18-of-29) of runners trying to steal.

Carrera Come Up Big Against Monmouth
Junior Jose Carrera delivered the game-tying RBI double in Manhattan's MAAC-opening win over the Hawks before scoring the winning run. Last weekend, he batted .364 (4-of-11) with three doubles, three walks and two runs against Monmouth. 

Barrella Streaking
Freshman Richie Barrella has hit safely in seven-straight and eight-of-nine while batting .419 during that time. On the year, the rookie first baseman is hitting .313 (15-of-48) with two doubles, seven RBi and five walks.

Kanwisher Tough To Hit
Junior RHP Shawn Kanwisher struck out six over 3.1 innings of one-hit relief to earn the Jaspers' first MAAC victory of the year last weekend. He has struck out 12 while not allowing an earned run over 8.0 innings of work. On the year, he is 3-2 with 24 strikeouts, against just three walks, and a 1.77 ERA while limiting opposing hitters to a .225 average.

News & Notes
* Head Coach Jim Duffy's next victory will be the 100th of his career.

* In Duffy's first year (2012), he went 4-1 against Canisius while winning three times by just one run.

* Wappingers Falls native junior Joe Credendino notched his first two collegiate hits in Manahttan's 6-5 win over Monmouth, including a ninth-inning single that helped sparked the Jaspers' come-from-behind victory.

* Freshman Anthony Rocchietti is 3-for-6 over his last two games after being mired in a 1-for-22 slump.
