MIAMI, Fla. - FIU posted a 19-5 win over Manhattan in the finale between the teams at the FIU Baseball Stadium.

With the win, the Panthers claim the series victory while improving to 7-5 as the Jaspers fall to 1-7.

After claiming its first win of the year last night, Manhattan picked up where it left off in the top of the first with a single run. Sophomore Jose Carrera (Miami, Fla. / St. Brendan) stroked a one-out single before stealing second. After moving to third on a ground out, senior Mikey Miranda (Miami, Fla. / Florida Christian) picked up Carrera with a two-out, run-scoring single.

The Jaspers added to the lead with three runs in the top of the second with three hits. Senior Chris Kalousdian (Kings Park, N.Y. / Kings Park) led of the frame with a single before moving to second on classmate Joe McClennan's (Highland Mills, N.Y. / Cornwall) one-out walk. FIU appeared to be on the verge of evading further damage by getting the second out only to see Evan Brown (Ashburnham, Mass. / Cushing Academy) plate Kalousdian with a RBI single while extending the lead to 2-0. Carrera then kept the carnage going with a two-run triple in staking the visitors to a 4-0 lead.

Unfortunately for Manhattan, it was all Panthers after that.

FIU responded with three runs in the bottom part of the second and would outscore the Jaspers 19-1 the rest of the way.

Manhattan would plate its final run of the game on Vin Teixeira's (Sr., Hamden, Conn. / Hamden Hall Country Day) two-out, pinch-hit RBI single in the top of the eighth that scored sophomore Jason Patnick (Hopewell, N.J. / Hopewell Valley Central).

Carrera went 3-for-4 with a triple, two RBI, a stolen base and a run to pace a nine-hit Jasper attack that plated all five of its runs with two outs.

Freshman LHP Tom Cosgrove (Staten Island, N.Y. / Monsignor Farrell) was saddled with the loss, striking out two while allowing five runs over 3.1 innings of work.

The Panther's first three hiters went a combined 8-for-16 at the plate with eight RBI and six runs to highlight a 20-hit performance that saw 12 different players hit safely, including all nine regulars.

RHP Christopher Mourelle (2-1) earned the win, striking out five while yielding four runs on six hits over 6.1 innings.

Manhattan returns to action at Seton Hall on Wednesday, March 4 at 3 p.m.
