SURPRISE, Ariz. - Manhattan led 18th-ranked Oklahoma State 7-2 in the sixth inning before the Cowboys rallied to score eight times in the bottom of the inning on its way to a 10-7 victory over the Jaspers on Friday night at the Arizona State Invitational.

The Jaspers struck early, jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning after Jose Carrera led off with a bunt single. He moved to second base on when Chris Kalousdian reached on a sacrifice bunt that was mishandled by Oklahoma State starter Garrett Williams. Brendan Slattery then singled home Carrera to put the Jaspers on the board. The second run scored after a ground ball double play scored Kalousdian to make it 2-0.

Vin Teixeira's two-run home run gave the Jaspers a 4-0 lead in the third and Manhattan went ahead 5-0 in the fourth inning on Kalousdian's two-out infield single.

Meanwhile, Manhattan starter Joey Rocchietti had allowed just one base hit through the first four innings against a potent Oklahoma State lineup.

In the fifth, the Jaspers continued to dent the scoreboard. Teixeira, Joe McClennan, Christian Santisteban and Evan Brown banged out four consecutive singles to put Manhattan in front, 6-0.

After the Cowboys came back to score twice in the bottom of the fifth, the Jaspers got a run back in the top of the sixth. Kalousdian, who finished 4-for-4 on the day, ripped a one-out double, then came around to score on Andrew Gorecki's RBI single, making it 7-2.

Oklahoma State started the pivotal sixth inning with consecutive base hits by Dustin Williams and Zach Fish. With his team trailing 7-6 with two outs later in the frame, Williams had the big hit of the inning, a bases-clearing triple on a 3-2 pitch that gave Oklahoma State a 9-7 advantage. Fish followed with a run-scoring single that ultimately was the final margin.

Kalousdian tripled with two outs in the eighth inning but that was the only Jasper runner to reach base in the final three innings.

In addition to Kalousdian's four-hit game, Teixeira went 3-for-5 with two RBI. Michael Martin tossed scoreless frames in the seventh and eighth in relief.

The Jaspers are back in action on Saturday, March 1 against Gonzaga at 6 p.m. to continue the Arizona State Invitational at the spring training home of the Kansas City Royals and Texas Rangers.

NOTES:

Eight of the nine Jasper starters had at least one base hit ... Manhattan scored in five of the first six innings ... Oklahoma State used six pitchers in the game.
