STONY BROOK, N.Y. - On Saturday morning, the Manhattan College men's and women's cross country teams began their 2012 campaign by competing in the Stony Brook Season Opener.  The Jasper men finished fourth in the team standings, while the women's team was fifth.  Host Stony Brook won both the men's and women's races.

Tom Voorheis (Syracuse, N.Y.) was Manhattan's top finisher on the men's side.  He took seventh place overall, completing the 6000-meter course in 20:07.91.  Shane Beyer (Brick, N.J.) had an impressive collegiate debut.  He crossed the line 22^nd in a time of 20:46.20.  Stephen Chantry (Williamsburg, Va.) was right behind Beyer, taking 23^rd in 20:47.83, while Jacob Adams (Yonkers, N.Y.) placed 26^th overall (20:55.76).  Another newcomer, Nathan Kotch (Tappan, N.Y.) claimed the Jaspers' fifth scoring place.  Kotch finished 31^st in 21:07.27.  Rounding out Manhattan's top seven were Kevin O'Brien (Attleboro, Mass.) (32^nd, 21:13.94) and Greg Perrier (Dix Hills, N.Y.) (39^th, 21:40.83).

The Jaspers earned 97 team points in the men's race.  Stony Brook won the team crown with a score of 31.

The women raced over 4000 meters.  Alexandra Cappello (Scarsdale, N.Y.) finished 19^th in 16:11.40 to lead the Jaspers.  In her first race in a Manhattan uniform, Rachel Lottermann (Washington Township, N.J.) was the second Jasper across the line.  Lottermann's time of 16:27.54 was good for 24^th overall.  Emmy Koskinen (Sodertalje, Sweden) placed 27^th in 16:30.53, while Elizabeth Rosenberger (Ramsey, N.J.) took 34^th (16:53.06) and Erica Brady (Quincy, Mass.) recorded a 36^th-place showing (17:01.70).  Johanna Petruski (Toms River, N.J.) (44^th, 17:32.31) and Janie Turek (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.) (45^th, 17:42.22) completed Manhattan's top seven.

Manhattan finished with 123 points in the team standings.  Stony Brook claimed five of the first seven places and won the competition with 20 points.
