RIVERDALE, N.Y. ? The Manhattan baseball team is en route to its sixth consecutive postseason appearance as the squad travels to Trenton, N.J. to partake in the 2008 MAAC Baseball Championships at Waterfront Park. The second seeded Jaspers are slated for an opening round match up with third seeded Siena on Thursday at 2 p.m. Jasper fans who are not able to make it out to the ballpark can listen to the live web broadcast exclusively at GoJaspers.com.
Manhattan announcers Ed Cohen and Martin Collins will call the action throughout the tournament as the Jaspers make a claim for the program's second MAAC title. The winner of the 2008 MAAC Championships will receive the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship.
Manhattan will play either one or two games on Friday as the tournament is a double elimination format. Game times on Friday are scheduled for 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Should the Jaspers advance to the championship game on Saturday, the first contest would be held at 1 p.m. If necessary, a second championship game is slated for 4 p.m.
The Jaspers enter the 2008 postseason riding a 10 game winning streak which began on May 3. Manhattan has won 17 of its last 20 contests, and harbors a 31-18-1 overall record. The squad earned a share of the program's first MAAC Regular-Season title with Canisius after going 19-5 in conference play. As a result of the MAAC tie breaker policy, the Jaspers were granted the tournament's second seed.
