Sacramento, Calif. (September 8, 2007)- Manhattan dropped a 3-0 decision to the host school at the Sacramento State Invitational this afternoon. The Hornets gradually wore down the Lady Jaspers. Manhattan has one more match at the tournament, taking on Oregon State tonight at 8:00 p.m. ET.
In the first game, Sacramento State raced out to a 14-4 lead, but Manhattan held tough, cutting an eight point deficit (19-11) to just one point (24-23) with a 12-5 run, but could not score the equalizer, dropping a 30-25 decision.
In the second game, the Hornets scored 12 of the first 15 points on the way to a 30-18 win, and scored 11 of the last 13 points in the third game to pull away for a 30-15 win.
Rita Welsh (team-high 11 kills, three block assists, .409 hitting %) and Jackie Kapovich (nine kills, three block assists, .391 hitting %) paced the Manhattan offense. Alyssa Getzel added 28 assists, and Ashley Watson tallied 14 digs.
