Storrs, Conn. (August 25, 2007)- Manhattan College dropped its season opening match, 3-0, to the University of Connecticut this afternoon on the Huskies' campus. Junior setter Alyssa Getzel tallied a team and game-high 23 assists to help lead the Lady Jasper offense.
Manhattan tallied the first three points of the first game, and the score was knotted at 10-10 before Connecticut pulled away for a 30-14 win.
In the second game, the Huskies raced out to a 13-4 lead in a 30-19 win, though the Lady Jaspers played evenly with Connecticut in the middle of the match.
The third match was tied at 6-6 in the early going, before the Huskies ran off a 14-3 run to open up a big lead on the way to a 30-16 final.
Freshman Diane Strutner and sophomore Rita Welsh tallied eight and seven kills, respectively, to lead the Lady Jaspers, with Strutner and senior Ashley Watson each recording a team-high 10 digs.
Manhattan returns to action on Sunday, August 26, traveling to West Hartford, Conn. to take on the University of Hartford. The match is slated to begin at 2:00 p.m.
