West Palm Beach, Fla. (March 16, 2006)- Rhode Island kept the Manhattan hitters off balance as the Rams posted a 5-1 win at the Papa John's Baseball Classic.
Rene Ruiz drove in the lone Jasper run.
Manhattan took a brief lead in the top of the second, as
Nunzio Franzese singled and stole second before Ruiz drove him in with an RBI single.
URI answered with three runs in the bottom of the frame, with the first two scoring on a double and the third on a Manhattan error.
The Rams would add two more in the eighth to provide the final margin.
Franzese (3-4, run) and
Nick Derba (2-4) joined Ruiz as Jaspers who produced multi-hit games.
Matt Nevins took the loss, going the first 4.1 and allowing two earned runs.
Kyle Wirtz worked 2.2 innings of relief, allowing one earned run, and
Brian Searls relieved Wirtz in the eighth and got the final three outs of the inning.
