Princess Anne, Md. (September 30, 2005)--Reigning MAAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week
Maggie Pfeifer continued her productive offensive play with a 24-kill effort, as Manhattan Volleyball finished off the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore in four games (30-19, 26-30, 30-22, 30-21) in their first match at the UMES Invitational on Friday night in Princess Anne, Md.
Pfeifer, a senior middle hitter, took several successful swings, finishing with a whopping .556 hitting percentage, while also pounding out the game-ending kill in each of Manhattan's three wins. Senior libero
Ashley Davis paced the Lady Jasper defense with a match-high 14 digs, with freshman
Andrea Reiff contributing 13 digs.
After controlling game one from the start en route to an 11-point victory, the Lady Jaspers dropped game two and fell behind early in game three. Trailing the UMES Hawks 5-1 in the third frame, the Lady Jaspers caught fire and rattled off eight straight points to take a 9-5 lead, which they would not relinquish. Eight kills and three service aces from Pfeifer in the fourth game was enough to turn a 13-11 deficit into a nine-point win.
Also pacing the Lady J's offensively were senior setter
Lori Bambauer and senior outside hitter
Megan O'Dorisio. Bambauer tallied 45 assists, 17 of which were converted by O'Dorisio, who finished with the second most kills in the match.
Manhattan tries for two in a row tomorrow, October 1, when they continue play at the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore Invitational at 10:00 a.m. against Delaware State University. Following that match, the Lady J's square off against Coppin State University at 1:00 p.m.
