Chicago, Ill. (September 16, 2005)--Lady Jasper senior middle hitter
Maggie Pfeifer led the Manhattan attack with a match-high 12 kills, but Manhattan Volleyball dropped its first match of the Loyola Invitational to host school Loyola-Chicago by a score of three games to none (19-20, 21-30, 27-30) on Friday night at the Gentile Center.
Despite not having a player record more than ten
kills on the night, Loyola out-hit Manhattan in the first two games. In game three, the Lady Jaspers hit for a higher percentage, but they were unable to finish off the Ramblers to force a fourth frame. With game three tied a eight points apiece, the Lady Jaspers went on a 9-2 run to take a 17-10 lead. Loyola, however, fought back to pull even at 27, and then, the Ramblers scored three straight to secure the victory.
Loyola's defense received 16 kills from junior Ann Deelo and 15 from junior Courtney Ashley, who played with Lady Jasper senior
Ashley Davis at Naperville North High School in Illinois, en route to the win. Manhattan's
Ashley Watson led the Lady J's on the defensive side with 13 digs.
Manhattan continues play at the Loyola Invitational in Chicago, Illinois tomorrow afternoon as they battle the University of Tulsa at 3:30 p.m. Following the showdown with Tulsa, the Lady J's will take on Columbia University at 6 p.m.
