GAME 2 BOXSCOREBoca Rotan, FL (March 16, 2005)- Baseball went 1-1 today in a double header with Lafayette in Boca Rotan, FL at Florida Atlantic University. Sophomore
Jesse Darcy earned Manhattan a 4-0 win pitching all seven innings in the first game of the day. The Jaspers then lost the second game 12-9. The Jaspers overall record is now 4-7.
The Jaspers took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Scoring began after
Eric Nieto was hit by a pitch walking the first run. Shot by
Nunzio Franzese from left field brought in two runs. Scoring continued in the fifth inning after
John Fitzpatrick singled up the middle to bring in the fourth and final run of the game.
In the second game Lafayette took the lead early outscoring Manhattan 2-1 in the first inning. The Jaspers remained scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when
Phil Kuhner brought in one run off of a double to center field making the score 6-2.
After holding Lafayette to a scoreless fifth inning, Manhattan continued to pick up the momentum when Matt Rizotti hit a home run to center field earning two runs. The Jaspers brought in two additional runs to tie the game, 6-6.
Lafayette answered back scoring four runs in the sixth inning and two in the seventh. A Jasper rally in the bottom of the seventh led by back to back doubles by Rizotti and Fitzpatrick was not enough to gain the lead. The final score was 12-9.
The Jaspers play again on Friday, March 18 against Florida International in Miami, FL at 7:00 p.m.
