Bronx, NY (September 18, 2004)- Manhattan snapped a nine-match losing streak by sweeping Wagner 3-0 (30-20, 30-21, 30-16) in its second match of the day at the Rose Hill Classic on the campus of Fordham University. Junior middle hitter Maggie Pfeifer, who registered a .625 hitting percentage in the match against Wagner and notched 39 kills during the weekend, was named to the All-Tournament Team.
The Lady Jaspers hit for a .594 percentage in the first game against Wagner, riding that mark to a season-high .365 hitting percentage for the match. Lori Bambauer notched her first double-double of the season, dishing out 40 assists to go along with 10 digs. Allison O'Neill contributed a season-high four service aces, while Whitney Judkins put away 13 kills for a .500 match hitting percentage.
In the first match of the day, Canisius took the first two games from Manhattan en route to a 3-1 win over the Lady Jaspers (31-29, 30-16, 28-30, 30-26).
Manhattan was led by 14 kills from Megan O'Dorisio and 12 kills from Meghan Plunkett. Maggie Pfeifer and Helena Ward had 11 kills each, while Ashley Davis set a personal season-high with 19 digs. The Lady Jaspers hit .263 to take the third game, but could not overcome a .290 hitting percentage by Canisius in the fourth game.
Canisius, which saw its record move above .500 (5-4), had two players register a double-double. Christina Wildes notched 27 kills and 16 digs while Kim Hoffman totaled 19 kills and 19 digs to pace the Golden Griffins.
Although Canisius is a member of the MAAC Conference, the match does not count in the MAAC conference standings.
With the win against Wagner, Manhattan's record improves to 2-9. The Lady Jaspers will return to the court on Wednesday, September 22, when they will face off against Columbia at Draddy Gymnasium. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
