Fishkill, NY (May 28, 2004)- Manhattan fell to LeMoyne, 12-5, in a winner's bracket game of the MAAC Baseball Championships, held at Dutchess County Stadium. The Jaspers will now play Niagara for the second and final spot in the championship round of the double-elimination tournament.
John Maser led Manhattan's offense, going 3-4 with an RBI.
LeMoyne plated four runs in the bottom of the first when Andre Enriquez connected on a grand slam.
The score remained 4-0 until Maser singled home
Chris Gaskin in the fifth to bring the Jaspers to within three, at 4-1.
The Dolphins answered with four runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh to push the lead to 10-1 before Manhattan got the bats going, plating one in the seventh when Gaskin scored on a wild pitch, and three more in the eighth.
Sam Deluca plated
Nick Derba with the first run, and
Frank Cappello connected on a two-RBI single, scoring
Matt Cucurullo and
Gary Diaz.
LeMoyne scored twice in the ninth to provide the final margin.
Mike Parisi (4-6) took the loss, allowing seven earned runs over six innings, while stiking out seven.
Kyle Wirtz went the final three innings, allowing two runs and stiking out three. Bobby Blevins (5-4) was the winner for LeMoyne.
