Poughkeepsie, NY (April 10, 2004)- Josh Santerre pitched a complete game win, allowing only one run and scattering five hits as Manhattan posted an 8-1 win in the second game of today's MAAC double header at Marist. The Red Foxes took the first game, 10-3.
Santerre (3-3) did not allow a run after a first inning RBI groundout by Kevin Buck. The Buck RBI tied the score at 1-1 after John Fitzpatrick connected on a solo blast to center field in the top of the first.
The Jaspers (7-15-1, 3-3 MAAC) plated two more runs in the second as Nick Derba scored on a failed pickoff attempt and Gary Diaz scored on a Frank Cappello RBI single. Manhattan would add three more in the third on a Derba RBI sacrifice fly and a two-RBI double by Diaz.
The Jaspers would add single runs in the fifth and sixth on RBI singles by Derba and Matt Cucurullo.
Derba went 2-2 with two RBI, while Cappello, Fitzpatrick, Josh Greco, and Cucurullo all went 2-4.
In the first game, Manhattan jumped to an early 2-0 lead, plating two runs on a two-run round tripper by Greco, scoring Fitzpatrick.
The Red Foxes (9-18, 5-3 MAAC) would answer with two runs of their own in the bottom of the third before breaking the game open by scoring the next eight runs over the next four innings.
The Jaspers would plate a run in the top of the ninth on an RBI sacrifice fly by Cappello, but could draw no closer.
Greco was 2-4 with two RBI, while Cappello was 1-3 with an RBI and Sam Deluca was 2-5.
Mike Parisi (1-4) was tagged with the loss, striking out four in four innings of work. Jesse Darcy worked two scoreless innings in relief.
