VOLLEYBALL EARNS SECOND MAAC VICTORY OVER SIENA ON SENIOR DAY

Riverdale, NY (November 7, 2004)- Junior Maggie Pfeifer recorded her 1,000th career kill and had 26 for the match to lead the Lady Jaspers to a 3-1 win over Siena today at Draddy Gymnasium. Game scores were 30-27, 27-30, 30-24, 30-20. Senior Allison O'Neill had a season high 15 digs and fellow senior Helena Ward had eight kills and five blocks in the final home match of the season.

Manhattan led nearly the whole way in what was still a tight first game. Siena tied the game at 18, but Manhattan took the lead for good on a kill from Ward. The Saints closed to within two at 28-26, but Manhattan sealed the first game on kills from Pfeifer and O'Neill.

The Lady Jaspers seemed poised to take the second game as well when they extended their lead to 24-19 on a service ace from freshman Ashley Watson. However, Siena battled back to eventually tie the game at 27. The Saints then would take the next three points, two of which came from kills by Christie Gustafson, who totaled a team-high 22 kills for Siena.

With the match tied at a game apiece, Manhattan came out strong in the third game, opening up a ten-point lead at 22-12. Siena would score four straight to make it 27-23, but the Lady Jaspers eventually closed out the game on a kill from Pfeifer.

After Siena took an early 2-1 lead in the fourth game, Manhattan took control and never allowed Siena to regain the lead. The Lady Jaspers' defense held Siena to a .100 hitting percentage in the game, and on another service ace from Watson at 29-20, Manhattan closed out the match, securing their second MAAC victory of the season.

With the win, Manhattan improves its conference mark to 2-5 and 6-22 overall. With the loss, Siena sees its record fall to 8-15 overall and 1-5 in the MAAC.

Manhattan hit for a .296 percentage in the match, led by Pfeifer's remarkable .676 percentage. Sophomore Whitney Judkins put away 11 kills for a .364 percentage, and junior Lori Bambauer dished out 52 assists for Manhattan. Junior Megan O'Dorisio recorded a career high 23 digs for Manhattan, which was also a match high. O'Dorisio now has recorded double figures in digs in six straight matches.

Manhattan returns to action on Tuesday, November 9, for a MAAC matchup at Fairfield. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
