Riverdale, NY (October 27, 2003) - The Lady Jaspers defeated MAAC foe Fairfield (3-9, 1-4) in five games, extending Manhattan's winning streak in the conference to six and extending its overall streak to 11. Luka Van Cauteren led the way for Manhattan totaling 18 kills, 22 assists and 19 digs.
In the first game Manhattan jumped out to a 10-5 run, and did not trail any part of the game, winning 30-24. The second game began in a back and forth fashion until Fairfield took the lead at 8-7 and held on for a 30-18 victory. In game three the Lady Jaspers started the game on a 4-1 run, and ended the game on two straight kills from sophomore
Maggie Pfeifer winning 30-24. In game four Fairfield pulled out the close game, which had seven lead changes, winning 30-26. In the fifth and final game, the Lady Jaspers trailed for most of the game until they took the lead at 12-11 and managed to pull out the 15-13 victory.
Sophomore Lori Bambauer added a team high 29 assists and 15 digs, and senior tri-captain
Krista Thorsen recorded 13 kills and 15 digs in the victory. Pfeifer tallied 14 kills with a .323 hitting percentage helping the Lady Jaspers remain undefeated in the month of October.
Leading the way for the Fairfield Stags were Kristin Anderson with 17 kills and a .500 hitting percentage and Laurie Brands who tallied 13 kills and 15 digs.
The Lady Jaspers head back into action on Wednesday when they face MAAC foe Iona at 6 pm. On Saturday Manhattan hosts Fairleigh Dickinson at 2 pm.
