RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Manhattan College women's basketball team defeated Mount St. Mary's, 67-60 at Draddy Gymnasium this Sunday afternoon.

Petra Juric scored 16 points and nine rebounds for Manhattan (15-5, 8-3 MAAC). Jade Blagrove added 14 points while Inez Gimenez Monserrat finished with 13 points for the Jaspers.

Jessica Tomasetti recorded 25 points and four rebounds for Mount St. Mary's (7-13, 4-7 MAAC). Isabella Hunt and Jada Lee added 10 points apiece for the Mount.

"Great MAAC win! I thought our team played through adversity and found a way to win ugly tonight," said head coach Heather Vulin. "Our post-play really stood out. I like the chemistry that Petra, Jade, and Leyla are playing with."

The Jaspers came out of the gates hot, securing a 13-6 lead. The Mount tightened the game up and eventually tied it 17-17 before a layup from Jayla James gave the Jaspers a 19-17 lead after one. The second quarter would flow very similarly as Manhattan would jump out to another lead, 29-21, before the Mount once again tightened the game up, going into halftime tied 31-31. Ines Gimenez Monserrat demonstrated impressive long-range accuracy, sinking 2 out of 3 three-point attempts.

Mount St. Mary's and Manhattan engaged in a back-and-forth battle during the third quarter. Manhattan surged ahead with consecutive shots, including a jumper from Blagrove and a layup from Gimenez Monserrat, bringing the score to 37-33. The lead would extend as high as seven in the quarter before The Mount would bring it back down to one with 12 seconds left in the quarter. On Manhattan's last possession, Juric hit a jump shot, giving Manhattan a 48-45 lead after three quarters. The Jaspers played great team defense in the fourth quarter, allowing just one field goal in the first 5:55 of the fourth, allowing them to go up 55-48 with 4:22 to play. Mount St. Mary's would try to come back but could never cut the lead down to a one-possession game. Anne Bair hit a crucial three-pointer, creating a comfortable 7-point advantage at 60-53, with just 2:32 remaining. Manhattan maintained control for the rest of the quarter, making enough free throws down the stretch to prevent The Mount from making a comeback.

Manhattan shot 61.0% from the field and 55.6% percent from three-point. They had 32 points in the paint and 15 bench points.

Mount St. Mary's shot 39.4% percent from the field and 33.3% from three-point. They had 28 points in the paint and five bench points.

The Jaspers will host Niagara University on Thursday, Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. at Draddy Gymnasium for Black Student Union.
