RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Manhattan men's and women's track & field teams are ready for the 2024 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Indoor Championships being held at The Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory, Saturday through Sunday. 
 
Now You See Me, Now You Don't
Darion Lopez has stepped on the scene this indoor season ready to compete. With top-six times in both the 60 meters (6.93) and 200 meters (22.06), Lopez is primed to make the finals in both events.
 
The Vets
Both Noah Jefferson and Alonzo Harrison return for the 400 meters. Jefferson and Harrison placed second and fifth a year ago in the event with times of 48.95 and 49.81.
 
Going the Distance
Andria Scaglione has had a stellar grad year and will continue it with a top-five time in the 3,000 meters (9:44.73).
 
How High Can You Go
Ivan Lytovchenko is the reigning MAAC Field Rookie of the Meet. After taking second place in the high jump last year with a height of 2.01 meters (6-07.00), he's back at it again with the second-best height in the field.
 
Lauren Chappell is set to compete on the women's side in the event with a height that's the fifth-best amongst the field (1.55m).
 
Count Us In
The Jaspers have a pair of athletes set to compete in the men's pole vault with a high likelihood of scoring, while both the men and women have competitors signed up in the long jump waiting for their names to be called to step up to the runway.
 
Keep An Eye Out
The Jasper men have a lot of potential in the weight throw with the possibility to collect around 18 points, including heading into the events with the top two marks by Alex Kristeller (22.19m/72-09.75) and RJ Decker (19.52m/64-05). Decker won the event last year with a launch of 19.95 meters (65-05.50). The shot put is another heavy event with three throwers holding marks in the top eight. Three Jaspers have top marks in the men's shot put, led by Peter Athanailos, who's second in the event rankings.
 
Just like the men's squad, the weight throw has plenty of Jaspers with top marks. Led by Mary Gill (18.37m/16-03.25) and Kristin Stickdorn (18.25m/, No. 1 and No. 2, Manhattan has the distances to shine come the weekend. Stickdorn, the reigning champ in the event and the 2023 MAAC Field Outstanding Field Performer, also has the third-best mark in the shot put. 
 
The Past
Last year, the Manhattan men placed fourth, and the women finished tied for fourth.
