Manhattan improves to 5-12 on the year while Hartford falls to 1-7.
GAME ONE
The Green and White struck first in the front end of this afternoon's twin bill, with Jacob Radziewicz singling to center to bring around Alfredo Delgado for the catcher's fifth RBI of the season.
The Hawks responded strongly in the following inning with a three-run blast and then a bases-loaded walk to exit the inning with a 4-1 advantage.
The Jasper offense got going again in the seventh inning. Radziewicz led the inning off with a single to right field. The following at-bat, Ryan Eaton drew a walk which was followed up by a fielder's choice by Frankie Marinelli which put runners on the corners. Radziewicz came home on a balk by the Hawks pitcher, which also moved Marinelli to third after he stole second. Marinelli came around after a two-run blast by Pete Durocher to tie the game at 4-4. The long ball is Durocher's second of the season.
Three more runs came across in the eighth inning to give the Jasper pitchers some breathing room on the bump. Marinelli drove home the game-winning run with a 2 RBI single up the middle. The Green and White added one more insurance run in the inning thanks to a Daniel Perez double.
Ohjiro Motoki earned his first of the season after one inning of work on the bump.
GAME TWO
This time around, it would be the Hawks to strike first, bringing around three runs in the first two innings, and forcing Jasper starter Greg Shaw out of the game after three innings of work.
Manhattan cut the lead to two, 3-1, thanks to a Durocher triple which brought around Perez.
The bats would truly come alive the in the sixth inning, where the good guys would put eight runs on the board, the most in any inning this season. The scoring was kicked off by a Logan Pfannenbecker sac-fly with the bases loaded to bring Manhattan within one run. The bases returned to the loaded status thanks to a Ryan Ash single on the following play. Marinelli came up big again today, tying the game at 3-3 with an RBI single.
Two more runs crossed the plate thanks to a hit-by-pitch and a fielding error by the Hawks, putting them down 5-3 with the bases loaded and Trevor Santos stepping into the batter's box. Santos took full advantage of the golden opportunity in front of him and took the Hawks pitcher for a deep ride to right field for the first grand slam of the 2023 season, making the score 9-3.
Manhattan piled on the runs, adding five runs in the seventh which included a Perez two-shot bomb.
Jack Mahoney, who came in relief for Shaw, earned his first win of the season after hurling 3.2 innings with four punch outs.
