RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The men's swimming and diving team finished the second of three days at the ECAC Championships, placing 13th with 59 points.
In the preliminaries, Joe Brennan tied David Cooper of Rider in seventh place in the 100-yard breaststroke, setting a new school record of 55.45, and qualifying for the A-finals. The men won the 800-yard freestyle relay, with a time of 7:19.75. Making up the team was, Branden Deiss, Jonathan Carsen, Abelardo Cartagena, and Jack Martin. The men placed 10th in the 200-yard medley relay, with a finishing time of 1:34.94, qualifying them for the finals in the B group. Making up the team was Andrew Lebak, Brennan, Martin, and Carsen. lastly, Qualifying for the 100-yard backstroke was Lebak, coming in at 16th, setting him up to compete in the B group for the finals.
In the Finals, Brennan finished eighth in the 100-yard breaststroke with a final time of 55.48, slightly slower than the new school record he set in the prelims. The men placed 10th in the 200-yard medley relay, finishing in 1:34.91, .03 seconds quicker than their prelim time. Lebak placed 15th in the 100-yard backstroke finishing in the B group at 52.38, earning him a new personal best. Lastly, the men placed 11th in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a final time of 7:19.75. The team consisted of Deiss, Carsen, Abelardo Cartegena, and Martin.
The U.S. Naval Academy leads the championship with 537.5 points.
The 2023 ECAC Swimming and Diving Championships finishes on Sunday, Feb. 26, in Annapolis, Md.
