EAST MEADOW, N.Y. – Manhattan men's swimming and diving team finished eighth on the first day of the ECAC Championships.
In the preliminaries,
Branden Deiss and Abel Cartagena qualified for the 500-yard freestyle by swimming with a prelim time of 4:51.28 and 5:11.12. In the preliminary 200-yard IM,
Jack Martin swam a 2:07.51. For the preliminary 500-yard freestyle,
Joe Brennan,
Jonathan Carsen,
Andrew Lebak,
Louis Quinn,
Christian Skaff, and
Jorge Flechas all placed within the top 60 for the prelims. Brennan had the best time of 21.66.
For relay events, the men placed 12th and 18
th in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The first team consisted of Lebak, Brennan, Carsen, and Cartagena with a final time of 1:28.18, 3.77 seconds behind 11th, scoring Manhattan 30 points. The second team consisted of Quinn, Martin,
Vinny Tramontana, and Skaff with a final time of 1:37.48, earning Manhattan 14 points. The men also placed 10th and 18th in the 400-yard medley relay. The 10th-place team was made up by Lebak, Brennan, Martin, and Carsen. They had a final time of 3:31.57, scoring the Jaspers 33 points. The 18th-place team consisted of Cartagena, Tramontana, Deiss, and Skaff. They swam with a final time of 3:55.04, earning the Jaspers 14 points.
Deiss placed 19
th in the 500-yard freestyle for individual races with a final time of 4:50.96, only .58 seconds behind Benedek Lendvai from St. Francis.
The Jaspers race again tomorrow, December 3, at the ECAC Winter Championships in East Meadow, N.Y.
