UNION, N.J. – Manhattan men's swimming and diving team placed second in the second day of the Cougar Invitational with a final score of 470 on Saturday.
For individual races, Jonathan Carsen came in third in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 55.63, 0.28 seconds behind second place. Joe Brennan placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 59.09, 0.15 seconds behind first place. For the 100-yard backstroke, Andrew Lebak placed second with a time of 54.96, only 1.87 seconds behind first.
For group races, the Jaspers placed first in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:39.07, only 0.12 seconds ahead of second place. Lebak, Joe Brennan, Jack Martin, and Carsen made up the team for the Jaspers. The men's team also placed second in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 7:45.86. Abel Cartagena, Branden Deiss, Martin, and Louis Quinn made up the team for the Jaspers.
In the evening session, Deiss won the 1650 freestyle, finishing in 17:18.38. In the 200-yard backstroke, Cartagena earned a second place finish, clocking in a time of 2:00.05. Quinn also competed, finishing his race in 2:18.65.
The 100-yard freestyle freestyle featured three Jaspers. Lebak and Carden finished in fourth and fifth in times of 50.29 and 50.58 respectively. The third member of the Green and White to enter the pool Jorge Flechas, who finished his event in 56.01.
The 200-yard backstroke featured Brennan (2:16.77) and Christian Skaff (2:35.06). Cartagena won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:01.33. The 400-yard freestyle team consisting of Carsen, Brennan, Lebank and Deiss came in second, finishing in 3:22.02
Manhattan swims again on Friday, Dec. 2, at the ECAC Championships in East Meadow, N.Y.
