Riverdale, NY - Manhattan lost a hard-fought match to Iona 3-1 (18-25, 23-25, 25-16, 22-25) on Saturday afternoon at Draddy Gymnasium.
*Iona came away victorious in the back-and-forth second and fourth sets that helped seal the win for the visitors. In the decisive fourth set, Manhattan held a lead at 14-13 but two straight kills from Iona helped them regain the lead for good. Manhattan made one last comeback bid when a kill from Erin Hoener got the Jaspers to within one before Iona responded with back-to-back points to end the match.
*Despite nine attack errors from Iona in the second set, the Gaels escaped with the win to go up 2-0 at that time thanks to two separate instances of scoring four unanswered points while trailing.
*In the third set, Lizzie Brown and Kelly Markowski tallied four and five kills respectively to force a fourth set.
*Markowski and Hoener paced the Jaspers in kills with 14. Brown also added eight kills to the Jaspers' total of 44.
*Camryn Paulson notched a career-high 36 assists in the loss. Paulson now has four games of at least 20 assists this season, including two contests in which she reached at least 30.
*Markowski, Abby Wilde and libero Ashley Chan each reached double-digits in digs, with Chan collecting a team-high 20.
*Cassandra Patsos led Iona with 13 kills while Hope Matschner had 24 digs to lead the Gaels defensively.
*Manhattan now hits the road to play Fairfield (11-6, 6-0 MAAC) on Sat., Oct. 16 at 1 p.m.
