Ryan Tierney (Staten Island, NY / St. Peter's) earned a second-place overall finish Saturday morning in the Jaspers' 2019 season opener at Marist. Tierney ran a 6K-best 19:17.0, helping the Jasper men to a third-place team finish.Â
Highlights:
- Three freshmen were the Jaspers' top finishers on the women's side, also leading Manhattan to a third-place team finish.
- First-year Jasper Andria Scaglione (Oceanside, NY / Oceanside) finished seventh with a 5K time of 19:07.0. Classmate and sister Nicola Scaglione (Oceanside, NY / Oceaside) placed 10th with a time of 19:14.3, while fellow freshman Rory Graham (Burnt Hills, NY / Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) came in 13th with a time of 19:29.3.
- Sophomore Benjamin Otis (Albany, NY / Fayetteville-Manilus) was the second to cross the finish line for the Jasper men, running the 6K course in 19:20.7, good for sixth place overall.Â
- Classmate Michael Hennelly (Suffern, NY / Suffern) was the next Jasper across, finishing 21st with a time of 19:49.7.
- The men's team finished third of the four MAAC squads competing in Saturday's meet. Marist won the men's race with an average time of 19:25. Iona, the league preseason favorite, finished second as a team with an average time of 19:34. The Jaspers averaged 19:40 as a squad. Siena finished fifth overall, behind Central Connecticut in fourth.
- With a team average of 19:59, the Manhattan women also finished behind two MAAC opponents. Marist averaged 18:50 for a first-place team finish, while Siena averaged 19:23 for second place. Iona came in fifth with an average time of 21:04, also behind a fourth-place Central Connecticut.

Manhattan will return home to Van Cortlandt Park for the Fordham Fiasco on Saturday, September 7. The first race will go off at 9:30 a.m.
