Prevo compiled a .857 slugging percentage and put together a .571 on-base percentage as the MAAC's first-place Monmouth eeked out a 3-1 win in game one and a 4-3 victory in the second game of the day. Manhattan falls to 12-22 overall and 1-7 in league play, while Monmouth improves to 24-12 this season and 9-1 in the MAAC.
Game 1: Monmouth 3, Manhattan 1
- Starting pitcher Jessie Rising (Little Egg Harbor, NJ / Pinelands) pitched 6.0 innings for Manhattan, earning nine strikeouts, her highest single-game total of the season.
- Monmouth got on the board first, when Erika Coreth hit a sacrifice fly to center field in the second inning for the Hawks' first run of the game.
- Prevo tied it up in the third, reaching first base on a bunt and fielding error, allowing teammate Megan Gillooley (Clifton Park, NY / Shenendehowa) to sneak home and make it 1-1.
- With two runners on in the top of the sixth, Kayla Rosado singled to right field for an RBI, giving the Hawks a 2-1 lead. Three batters later, Katie Harrington doubled to left field for another Monmouth run.
- Lauren Pitney (Ansonia, CT / St. Joseph's) led off in the bottom of the sixth with a single down the right field line. But Monmouth pitcher Alyssa Irons forced three outs from the next three batters, keeping the score at 3-1.
- Manhattan's Kayla McDermott (Garnerville, NY / North Rockland) entered the game in relief with two on in the top of the seventh. After walking the first batter faced to load the bases, McDermott forced the Hawks' Sam Tomasetti to line into a double play at short, before getting Rosado to fly out to left field.
- Irons finished the game from the pitcher's circle, retiring the side in the bottom of the seventh to earn the win for Monmouth.
- Rising took the loss for Manhattan, moving to 4-8 this year.
- Starting in the pitcher's circle for Manhattan in game two, McDermott went a complete game, striking out seven, her highest single-game total of the season. She held the Hawks to no hits through three innings.
- In the top of the fourth, Amber Wozniak singled to center field, driving in the first run of the game. Two batters later, Harrington drove in another run for Monmouth, making it 2-0 before being called out in a rundown between first and second to end the inning.
- With two on in the bottom of the fourth, Victoria Alonso (Stony Point, NY / North Rockland) singled to left field, driving in Manhattan's first run. Two batters later, Prevo tripled to to left center for two RBI, giving the Jaspers a 3-1 lead over the Hawks.
- Coreth homered in the fifth to tie the game. The Hawks then put two more runners in scoring position, before McDermott got Rosado looking for her third strike out of the inning.
- With two out and one on in the top of the sixth, Deangie Jimenez reached base on a fielding error, allowing the go-ahead run to score from third. The Jaspers snagged Jimenez trying to reach second for the third out of the inning, but not before the Monmouth runner had already crossed the plate, giving the Hawks a 4-3 lead and eventually securing the win.
- McDermott was tagged with the loss for Manhattan, moving to 4-10 on the season. Irons pitched again for Monmouth, earning the win and finishing her second complete game of the day.
The Jaspers will host Rider for a doubleheader at Gaelic Park on Sunday, April 14, starting at noon.
