Riverdale, NY - Fueled by a tenacious defense that yielded just two second-half goals, Manhattan defeated Hartford 11-8 for its third-straight win at Gaelic Park.
With the victory, the Jaspers improve to 4-2 with the Hawks fall to 0-5.
Tied 6-6 at the break, Manhattan exploded out of the gates to start the second half with three-straight scores. Junior
Brandon Grinnell's (Wakefield, MA / Wakefield Memorial) started the run with man-up score off a feed from senior
Parker Giarratana (Delray, FL / Boca Raton Community), before junior
Luke Hanson (Middletown, NY / Minisink Valley) made it a two goal game. Senior
William Ratchford (Mountain Lakes, NJ / Mountain Lakes) capped the three-goal spurt with his first score of the year, extending the advantage out to 9-6 with 9:16 remaining in the third.
Hartford would get one goal back when Owen Trepeta found the net and appeared poised to make it a one-goal game following a Jasper penalty to end the third.
Manhattan's defense killed off the man-up opportunity, before forcing a shot clock violation and Giarratana answered off a pretty pass from Hanson to again make it a three-goal game.
The Hawks would answer just over three minutes later and be gained possession off the ensuing face-off, before drawing a one-minute penalty. However, Hartford was denied yet again by a defensive unit that killed off three extra-man opportunities on the day. In the pivotal sequence, sophomore
Brendan Krebs (East Williston, NY / Chaminade) made two saves while keeping the visitors at bay.
Junior
Trevor Pelletier (Miami, FL / Gulliver Prep) then put the finishing touches on the victory with his third goal of the match, scoring on the empty net with 48 seconds remaining to provide the final 11-8 score.
Pelletier also added an assist with Grinnell matching him with three scores while Hanson handed out four assists for the third straight game.
Krebs made a career-high 16 saves while yielding just eight goals for the second-straight game in moving to 4-2.
