The Jaspers would threaten to tie it up in the top of the fourth as sophomore Matt Padre (Flemington, NJ / Hunterdon Central) was plunked leading off the inning, before classmate Santiago Riera (RIoclaro, Venezuela / Brunswick (CT)) drew a one-out, four-pitch walk. The pair would move into scoring position on a two-out wild pitch, but were left stranded.

In the bottom part of the frame, the Rams extended the lead out to 7-0 with five runs, highlighted by Alvin Melendez's one-out grand slam.

Fordham would add runs in the sixth and seventh innings in providing final 9-0 score.

Padre paced a five-hit offense, going 2-for-3 while being plunked.

Junior LHP Joe Chionchio (Bay Shore, NY / Belmont Abbey) led the pitching unit, striking out two in registering a scoreless frame in relief.

Senior RHP Jacob Knight (Oakley, CA / Chabot CC) also was impressive on the mound, striking out two in an inning of work while freshman RHP Jeff Long (Orangeburg, NY / Bergan Catholic (NJ)) fanned two over 2.0 innings.

Melendez went 2-for-3 with a grand slam and earned the win for the Rams with three strikeouts over 2.0 innings.

Manhattan will host UAlbany on Saturday, March 23 at 1:00 pm.
