Chapman's Record Run Highlights Mets Day Two

Senior sprinter Paige Chapman (Abingdon, MD / Harford Technical) broke her second school record of the year Saturday, finishing the 100-meter dash in a time of 11:58 at the 2018 Metropolitan Outdoor Championships. 

Competing in the 100-meter preliminaries on day two of the Mets, Chapman bested the previous Manhattan College record of 11.65 set by Inshallah Saunders in 1994. Chapman ultimately went on to place first in the event finals.

Chapman's performance highlighted a successful final day of competition for the Jaspers. Senior Charlene Pohl (Binsingen, Germany / Gymnasium Balingen) also won the women's heptathlon with a 4600 score. Freshman Cassie Riley (Fair Haven, NJ / Red Bank Catholic) followed close behind, earning fourth in the multi-event competition. Tim Youtkus (Basking Ridge, NJ / Ridge) placed second in the decathlon. 

Senior Kelly Gorman (South Amboy, NJ / Cardinal McCarrick) earned first in the women's 1,500-meters, finishing with a personal best time of 4:36.54. The women's 4x800 team, made up of Kaitlyn Smith, Erin Spadaccini, Gabby Fanning, and Gorman, also earned a first-place finish, with a 9:22.62 time.

Senior Ire Bozovicar (Potoki, Slovenia / Gimazija Jesenice) won the discus for Manhattan, hitting a distance of 52.71 meters. Eric Waugh (Wheatley Heights, NY / Half Hollow Hills West) placed third, with teammates Anu Awonusi and Nicholas Kocienda (Seaford, NY / Seaford) coming in fourth and sixth, respectively. The Jaspers also took the top five spots in the men's shot put, with junior Ryan Addlesberger (Cinnaminson, NJ / Cinnaminson) earning the top distance of 16.32. Waugh, Bozovicar, Awonusi, and Kocienda filled out the next four slots. 

Sophomore Brenton Foster (Townsville, Australia / William Ross) won the high jump for Manhattan, hitting a height of 2.17 meters, good for third all-time at Manhattan. Lasma Padedze (Ogre, Latvia / Ogre Secondary School No. 1), who placed fourth in the javelin on Friday, came in second in the shot put on Saturday with a distance of 13.50 meters, a personal best. She also earned a personal high in the discus, throwing a distance of 40.09.

Back on the track, junior Amir Khaghani (Bethesda, MD / Walt Whitman) took home third in the men's 5,000-meters. The women's 4x100 team, comprised of Chapman, Niasia Boone, Tiahna Mitchell, and Ana Ordonez Retamar, finished second in the event. Boone (Morrisville, PA / Pennsbury) would go on to take third in the women's 200-meters. 

Kathleen Cibuls (Blue Point, NY / Bayport-Blue Point) and Wilmer Jovel-Reyes (Closter, NJ / Northern Valley Regional) finished second in the 400-meter hurdles.

The Jaspers will travel to both the War Eagle Invitational at Auburn University and the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton starting Friday, April 20.
