Track Honors Senior Class at Final Home Meet

 Manhattan track & field honored 18 members of its senior class on Friday, February 23. The group, compiled of school record holders, Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) all-academic honorees, league champions, and more, included members from both the men's and women's cross country and track and field programs.

The senior day ceremony was the culmination of the 2018 Brother Jasper Invitational at Draddy Gymnasium, Manhattan's last home meet of the season. One of the big winners of the day was Manhattan's Chaid Maier (Melville, NY / Walt Whitman) who won the 3,000-meter event with a personal best time of 8:30.05, qualifying for the IC4A Championships.

Junior Eric Waugh (Wheatley Heights, NY / Half Hollow Hills West) won the men's shot put with a career best distance of 16.43, also qualifying for IC4As. Teammate Ire Bozovicar (Potoki, Slovenia / Gimazija Jesenice) came in second with a distance of 16.26, putting both throwers among the MAAC's top eight shot put performances of the season. 

On the women's side, Kelly Gorman (South Amboy, NJ / Cardinal McCarrick) qualified for the ECACs by posting a personal best time of 1:16.60, good for second place in the meet and the third-best time in the league for the event. Charlene Pohl (Bisingen, Germany / Gymnasium Balingen) tied a season-high distance of 5.70 in the long jump, as well. 

Sophomore Ana Ordonez Retamar (Saddle River, NJ / Northern Highlands Regional) won the women's 200-meter race with a time of 26.19, putting her among the MAAC's top 10 fastest times for the 200 meters. Junior Lisa Fajardo (Brooklyn, NY / Bishop Kearney) won the women's 1,000-meter race in 2:58.27, earning herself a top five performance in the MAAC. Up Next:
After bringing home 13 medals at the 2018 MAAC Indoor Championships last weekend, the Jaspers will next take on the ECAC/IC4A Indoor Championships starting March 2 in Boston.
