New York, NY - When speaking about the importance of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC)
Indoor Track & Field Championships earlier this week, sprinter Paige Chapman (Abingdon, MD / Harford Technical) quoted legendary tennis player Billie Jean King saying, "pressure is a privilege." On day one of the two-day meet this Saturday, Chapman proved true to her mantra, as the senior set the MAAC championship record, and a new Manhattan College record, in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.48.
Chapman moves on to the 60-meter finals tomorrow, but she headlined a day that saw multiple wins for the Jaspers, leaving the men's team in second place overall and the women in fifth. Sophomore
Brenton Foster (Townsville, Australia / William Ross) won the men's high jump with a height of 2.18 meters, taking home the MAAC gold. He also took fourth in the men's long jump. Senior
Fredrik Lofgren (Lund, Sweden / Lund University) picked up the silver in the high jump, coming in second only to Foster with a height of 2.07 meters.
In the men's pole vault, freshman
Eduard Winner took home the top spot, hitting a height of 4.65 meters. Senior
Love Litzell (Ostersund, Sweden / Wargentinskolan) earned second in the men's weight throw with a distance of 18.30 meters.
In women's field events, freshman Fiona Ruettimann (St. Gallan, Switzerland / Kantonsschule Heerbrugg) tied for third in women's high jump (1.60 meters). Senior Charlene Pohl (Bisingen, Germany / Gymnasium Balingen) placed fourth in women's long jump (5.63 m).
