With the win, Manhattan improves to 1-0 on the year, while LIU Brooklyn falls to 0-1 overall.
Highlights:
- Cajou's 28 points was 10 more than her previous career high earned most recently against UNH on December 9, 2017. The team captain went 9-17 from the floor, and 9-10 from the free throw line. She added five steals, four assists, three rebounds, and a block.
- Sophomore captain Courtney Warley (West Chester, PA / Bishop Shanahan) led the Jaspers in rebounds with 10, including six offensive. She contributed to Manhattan's point total with seven of her own, as well as four steals.
- Lizahya Morgan (East Hartford, CT / Capital Preparatory Magnet) earned a game-high six steals, also a career-high, besting her former benchmark of three last earned against Siena during the 2017-18 season.
- In her collegiate debut, D'yona Davis (Bronx, NY / Truman) notched nine points, four rebounds, and four steals. She shot 50 percent from the floor (4-8) in 18 minutes played.
- The Jaspers shot 33.3 percent for the game, while allowing the Blackbirds a 34 percent shooting night.
- Manhattan earned 28 points off turnovers, compared to LIU Brooklyn's 12. The Jaspers forced 35 TOs on the night, and committed 21.
- The Jaspers also won the battle in the paint, 30-22, and took a 16-6 advantage on fast break points.
- Manhattan broke out to a quick 19-5 lead in the first quarter, led by six points from Morgan in the opening minutes. The Blackbirds kept is closer in the second, earning nine points to the Jaspers' 11, but still ended the half down 30-14.
- It was a different story in the third, as LIU Brooklyn went 6-10 from the floor and 2-4 from three to earn an 18-13 advantage over the Jaspers to start the half. But Manhattan was able to maintain its lead for the duration with an 18-14 fourth quarter.
Manhattan faces its first road contest of the season at St. Francis Brooklyn on Saturday, November 10. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m.
