The win was the first of the season for UAlbany, who are now 1-2 on the year. Manhattan now also sits at 1-2 so far this season.
Highlights:
- Sophomore Courtney Warley (West Chester, PA / Bishop Shanahan) earned her first double-double of the season Wednesday, with a career-high 19 points and 12 boards (which also ties her career-high earned last season).
- Warley's play was critical to the Jaspers' fourth-quarter run against the Great Danes. She had 11 points and eight rebounds in the final minutes of play, as well as two steals and an assist.
- Gabby Cajou (Stony Point, NY / North Rockland) and Lizahya Morgan (East Hartford, CT / Capital Preparatory Magnet) combined for Manhattan's other nine fourth-quarter points. Cajou put in five while adding three assists, while Morgan added four points, two rebounds, and a steal. As a team, the Jaspers shot 45 percent from the floor in the final period, while holding the Great Danes to a 15.4 shooting percentage.
- Unfortunately, the Jaspers found themselves in a hole early on in the contest, down 23-10 at the end of the first quarter. The Danes went 10-12 from the floor and 1-2 from beyond the arc in the opening period, hitting the only three of the game for either team. (The last time the Jaspers didn't make a three was November 24, 2015 at New Hampshire).
- The Danes' lead was extended to 17 in the second period, and then to 21 in the third, UAlbany's largest lead of the game.
- It wasn't until the fourth that the Jaspers were able to out-shoot the Danes, who were averaging a 54.6 field goal percentage per quarter going into the final minutes.
- Manhattan opened the fourth on a 6-2 run, and cut the advantage to single digits with 6:28 left to play. At four minutes, UAlbany still had just two points for the quarter, as the Jaspers cut the lead to four. A Cajou dish to Warley cut the lead to two with 11 seconds to play, but it was as close as Manhattan would get before time expired.
- Cajou finished the game with seven points, as well as five assists and four steals. Freshman Kania Pollock (Queens, NY / The Mary Louis Academy) added seven of her own, her highest-scoring game so far this season.
- Coming off the bench, Pamela Miceus (Haverstraw, NY / North Rockland) set career-highs in points (six) and rebounds (five) for the night.
- Manhattan scored 24 points off turnovers in the game, compared to UAlbany's 17. The Jaspers also held the advantage in fast-break points (6-0) and second-chance points (10-8).
- Chyanna Canada had 15 points and eight rebounds for the Danes.
