Jaspers Fall To Stags At Home

Riverdale, NY - Manhattan volleyball ended its three-match win streak Sunday, October 14 with a three-set loss to reigning MAAC champions Fairfield at home.

The Jaspers fall to 3-19 on the year and 2-8 in conference play. The Stags, who were on a three-match losing streak, bounce back to 8-11 overall this season and 8-3 in the MAAC.

Highlights:
  • The Stags went 25-23, 25-14, and 25-15 for the win.
  • Manhattan kept the opening set close, going on a 7-4 run to pull within two at 21-19. The Stags secured the next two points, before a kill by Sandra Lozanova (Pernik, Bulgaria / Fresno State) and a block by Kenza Hall (Oakland, CA / Middle Tennessee State) and Shruti Mangipudi (San Ramon, CA / Dougherty Valley) put the Jaspers down 23-21. A kill by Vivan Donovan (Newport Beach, CA / Newport Harbor) and another block from Hall and Lozanova cut the Stags' lead to one at 24-23, but Fairfield's Sonja Radulovic got the kill that ended the first set.
  • Coming off the bench in set two, freshman hitter Julia Menocal (Bronx, NY / Preston) sparked a run for the Jaspers down 14-1. She had three-straight kills during a 7-0 run that cut Fairfield's lead to 14-8, and would finish the set with four. But the effort wasn't enough to overpower the Stags in the second.
  • Menocal ended the match with six kills for a team high.
  • Lozanova led Manhattan with three aces. She has 10 in Manhattan's last four matches.
  • Mangipudi earned 19 assists for the Jaspers, bringing her season average to 5.89 per set, ranking 10th in the MAAC.
  • Hall led Manhattan with three blocks, with Lozanova and sophomore Erin Hoener (St. Louis, MO / Incarnate Word) adding two apiece.
  • Libero Alyssa Rehrer (Lorton, VA/ South County) earned a team-high 13 digs for Manhattan.
  • Fairfield balanced its attack Sunday, with Laura Seeger and Mayda Garcia each earning nine kills and teammate Luci Albertson contributing eight.
  • Albertson also led the match with five blocks.
