New York, NY – With outstanding performances from every class, the Manhattan men's and women's swim teams dominated Baruch College in a dual meet competition Monday evening at the ARC Aquatic Center.
The men's squad cruised to a 115-81 victory, while the women's side outpaced its counterpart 120-70.
Racing in a short-course meter pool, the Jaspers dominated the 200 Medleys to begin the meet. Junior Megan Pagano, freshman Kaitlyn Moreschi, senior Alexandra Hutzler and sophomore Kali Nembach won in 2:21.98 for the women. As for the men, junior Tameryn Huffman, sophomore Tyler Dalton, senior Tyler McCloskey and freshman Derek Lederer combined to swim in 1:56.20, which was eight seconds faster than the next relay team.
The senior class put on a strong effort overall. Officially, Eileen Blood (Bridgewater, NJ / Bridgewater Raritan) won two individual events, while Hutzler (Miller Place, NY / Miller Place) and McCloskey (Orangeburg, NY) took home titles in the 100 Butterfly. Audrey Corcoran (West Boylston, MA / West Boylston) was victorious in the 200 IM with a time of 2:37.18.
The Jasper freshmen also came up huge on the evening, particularly on the men's side. Lederer (Blauvelt, NY / Tappan Zee) outmatched Baruch's Julian Tineo to win the 50 Freestyle. Classmates Charles Ledda (New Fairfield. CT / New Fairfield) and Kevin Richard (Pompton Plains, NJ / Pequannock Township) earned first place in the 100 Freestyle and 100 Backstroke, respectively.
Monday also marked the debut of Andre van Huyssteen (Paarl, South Africa / Paarl). He won his first collegiate event in the 200 IM in 2:16.50.
Manhattan is idle until Saturday, January 27 when they host Iona on Senior Day at Riverdale Country Day. The first event will begin at approximately 1:00 pm while the Senior Day ceremony will take place beforehand.
