Returning Talent, and Newcomers, Headline Manhattan Opener

Complete Results

Riverdale, NY
- Sophomore Brenton Foster (Townsville, Australia / William Ross) broke the Manhattan College high jump record Saturday, December 2 with a 2.24-meter jump recorded at the Manhattan Opener, the Jaspers' first track and field meet of the season.

Foster's jump bests the 2.20 high jump completed by former Jasper Mohamed Koita in February 2014. Foster qualified for the 2018 Metropolitan Indoor Championships set for February 2 in Staten Island, and he currently leads all NCAA Division I high jumpers.

The two-day Manhattan Opener showcased the depth of the 2017-18 Manhattan track and field team, which includes seasoned, high-performing veterans and talented newcomers.

Freshman Fiona Ruettimann (St. Gallan, Switzerland / Kantonsschule Heerbrugg) took home first place with a 1.67 meter jump in the women's high jump competition, while freshman Tim Youtkus (Basking Ridge, NJ / Ridge) earned first place in the men's long jump with a distance of 6.60 meters. Freshman Alexandra Preckajlo (Ocean, NJ / St. Rose) placed first in both shot put (12.15 meters) and weight throw (12.82 meters). And, freshman pole vaulter Colton Weber (St. Charles, IL / St. Charles East), nabbed first-place in pole vault with a heights of 4.35 meters.

But Manhattan's returning talent did not disappoint. Senior Paige Chapman (Abingdon, MD / Harford Technical), 2017 ECAC Indoor Champion in the 60 meters, won the dash Saturday with a time of 7.4, just .09 off the school record set by Sophia Tasker in 1997. Senior Charlene Pohl (Bisingen, Germany / Gymnasium Balingen) grabbed first place in the long jump with a distance of 5.68 meters.

Junior Eric Waugh (Wheatley Heights, NY / Half Hollow Hills West) won the men's weight throw with a distance of 15.87 meters, in addition to recording a personal best of 15.49 meters in the shot put event. Senior Ire Bozovicar (Potoki, Slovenia / Gimazija Jesenice) took second in the shotput with a distance of 15.53 meters.
