Brooklyn, NY - It was a game of firsts for
Courtney Warley (West Chester, PA / Bishop Shanahan) Saturday afternoon as the freshman center made her first collegiate start against LIU Brooklyn and recorded her first career double-double, leading the Jaspers past the Blackbirds 72-38 at the Steinberg Wellness Center.
Warley posted 14 points and 12 rebounds for Manhattan, going 4-5 from the floor and 6-7 from the free throw line. She added two assists and two steals in just 23 minutes of play. Warley's previous career highs came against Coppin State on November 25 in the Cal Classic, where she scored four points and pulled down seven rebounds.
Nine other Jaspers were productive from the floor against the Blackbirds, with senior center
Kayla Grimme (Altoona, PA / Altoona Area) leading the scoring effort at 15 points. She also added six rebounds, all on the defensive end, and three assists. Senior guard
Amani Tatum (Cambria Heights, NY / James Madison) put up 13 offensively, while sophomore
Alex Smith (Bronx, NY / Middle Tennessee State) had a career-high 10 points for the Jaspers in just 10 minutes of play.
The Jaspers took advantage of a poor shooting day for LIU Brooklyn, as the Blackbirds were only able to shoot 17.9 percent from the floor. Manhattan out-rebounded their opponent 46-30, as well, including 34-14 on the defensive end. The Blackbirds' leading scorer, Denisha Petty-Evans, was held to just 11 points on 4-15 shooting. The Jaspers' were also able to stymie two-time Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week Jeydah Johnson, holding her to just seven points and two rebounds.

Manhattan will play its last non-conference game of the season against Virginia on Thursday, December 21 in Charlottesville, VA at 7 p.m. The Jaspers will then start league play on Thursday, December 28 against Saint Peter's at 7 p.m. in Draddy Gymnasium.
