TONIGHT'S GAME
The Jaspers (3-4) resume non-conference play and continue their four-game road trip with a Wednesday evening matchup at St. Francis Brooklyn (1-6). Manhattan, which is looking to snap a three-game losing streak, is coming off a 70-53 defeat at Iona on Friday. The Terriers, meanwhile, have dropped five straight, including a 69-46 loss at Army West Point on Saturday. St. Francis Brooklyn recorded its only win of the season, 87-78, over another MAAC foe--Monmouth--on Nov. 16. This is Manhattan's final game before a 10-day break for final exams.
ABOUT THE JASPERS
Manhattan (3-4) has lost three straight to drop under .500 for the first time this season. In their last outing, the Jaspers suffered a 70-53 defeat at Iona on Friday night. Junior center Kayla Grimme is Manhattan's leading scorer and rebounder. She averages 9.6 points and 7.1 boards per game. Grimme is is fourth in the MAAC in rebounding, as well as the conference leader in blocks (3.1 bpg). Senior guard Maeve Parahus contributes 8.6 points per contest and ranks third in the league with a .472 three-point percentage. She drains a team-high 2.4 treys per outing. Junior guard Amani Tatum, meanwhile, tallies 8.6 points a night to go along with a conference-best 5.0 assists per game. Tatum is also third in the MAAC in steals (2.6 spg). After tonight's contest, Manhattan gets 10 days off, its longest break of the season, before resuming its four-game road trip with the “Battle of the Bronx” at rival Fordham (6-2) on Dec. 17.
ABOUT THE TERRIERS
St. Francis Brooklyn is looking to snap a five-game skid. The Terriers are coming off a 69-46 loss at Army West Point on Saturday. Senior forward Olivia Levey paces the squad with 12.0 points per game, and she ranks second on the team with 5.6 rebounds per contest. Sophomore forward Maria Palarino registers 10.0 points and a team-high 7.6 boards per outing, and her .550 field goal percentage is the second-best mark in the NEC. Junior forward Alex Delaney, meanwhile, tallies 8.6 points a night to go along with 2.4 assists per game. Delaney and freshman guard Jade Johnson both drain 1.6 three-pointers per contest, while senior guard Rachel Iozzia is tied for the team lead with 2.4 assists per outing. This is the first of four straight games against MAAC opponents for the Terriers, who host Saint Peter's (1-6) on Sunday. St. Francis Brooklyn picked up its only win over another MAAC foe--Monmouth--on Nov. 16.
SERIES HISTORY
The Jaspers are 15-1 all-time against St. Francis Brooklyn and have won 15 straight over the Terriers, their longest active winning streak against any opponent. St. Francis Brooklyn hasn't beaten Manattan since the first-ever meeting between the teams during the 1979-80 season. Last season at Draddy Gymnasium, the Jaspers posted a 61-53 victory on Dec. 18, 2015. The last time the squads met in Brooklyn Heights, Manhattan came away with a 63-34 win on Nov. 12, 2010.
LAST TIME OUT
Manhattan dropped a 70-53 decision at Iona on Friday night. Iona scored the first nine points of the game and led 12-4 before a 10-2 Jaspers run tied the score at 14-14. The Gaels held a 15-14 advantage entering the second quarter, then used an 8-0 spurt to extend the margin to nine points. Iona led 35-29 at halftime, and it was 50-37 Gaels wehn Gabby Cajou banked in a three-pointer to end the third quarter. A Cajou layup to start the fourth quarter trimmed Manhattan's deficit to eight, 50-42, but Iona responded with a 20-5 spurt to open up its largest cushion of the night, 70-47, before the Jaspers scored the final six points of the contest. Kayla Grimme and Amani Tatum paced the Jaspers with 12 points apiece, while Cajou registered a career-high eight points off the bench.
