Riverdale, NY - Junior Erica Modena's (Massapequa, NY / Massapequa) first-half goal proved to be the difference in Manhattan's 1-0 victory over Vermont in the season opener for both teams at Gaelic Park.

Modena placed the eventual game-winning tally into the lower left corner of the goal after senior Colleen Kavanagh (Rockville Centre, NY / Sacred Heart Academy) delivered a perfectly placed pass from 45 yards out in the 40th minute of the first half.

The Jaspers' sixth-straight home-opening win was also fueled by another stellar performance by Kristen Skonieczny (Lagrangeville, NY / Arlington). The senior netminder registered five of her six saves after halftime, highlighted by a diving save late in the second half.

After notching just two shots in the first half, the Catamounts changed their offensive formation and registered 16 second-half shots while putting constant pressure on a Manhattan defense that rose to the challenge.

The Jaspers return to action on Friday, August 28 at Gaelic Park against Fordham.
