Jaspers Overcome Conditions at Sam Howell Invitational

PRINCETON, N.J. – Despite windy conditions that wreaked havoc on the day's events, the Manhattan College men's and women's outdoor track & field teams had a good final day of competition at the Sam Howell Invitational on Saturday.  The Jaspers had a pair of winners on the women's side, while the men's team came away with three second-place finishers at Princeton University's Weaver Stadium.

Doreen Horschig (Lumpzig, Germany) recorded a personal-best time of 14.22 seconds to win the women's 100 meter hurdles.  She qualified for the ECAC Championships with that performance.  Horschig also finished third in the women's long jump with a leap of 5.45 meters (17 feet, 10¾ inches).  Meanwhile, Manhattan went 1-2 in the women's 800 meters.  Kelly Gorman (South Amboy, N.J.) took first in a time of 2:18.61, while Janie Turek's (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.) 2:19.28 clocking was good for second place. 

Kathy Cadet (Endicott, N.Y.) (1:03.26) added a second-place showing in the women's 400 meter hurdles, and Katharina Klien (Maeder, Austria) secured fourth place in the women's javelin with a toss of 36.32 m (119'2).  In addition, Lina Bengtson (Malmo, Sweden) had a mark of 46.71 m (153'3) to claim fourth place in the women's discus.

On the men's side, Will Stallings (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) grabbed second place in the 200 meters (21.76) and third in the 100 meters (10.98).  He also ran on Manhattan's 4x100 meter relay team that grabbed second place in 42.99 seconds.

Clement Gicquel (Rennes, France) tied for the best mark in the high jump (2.00 m, 6'6¾), but was credited with second place on misses.  In the men's javelin, Phil Ragan (Belmar, N.J.) (57.17 m, 187'7) and Connor Reilly (Ridgefield, Conn.) (52.27 m, 171'6) secured second and third place, respectively.  Blerim Pocesta (Staten Island, N.Y.), meanwhile, finished fourth in the discus with a throw of 46.96 m (154'1).
