RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Manhattan women's swimming team collected an impressive 105-91 win over Hunter on Friday night at the Riverdale Country Day School. With the victory, the squad improves to 5-7 on the season.
The meet marked the final competitive home event for the senior class, consisting of Kim Geissler, Lindsie Holmes, Emily Kearns, Alyssa Maccarrone, Emily Orchowski, Molly Russell and Kerry Schuermann.
Prior to the meet, the 14 seniors from both the men's and women's teams were awarded plaques for their hardwork and commitment to the program.
Sophomores Madison Brown and Sara Buckley and freshman Eileen Blood were named Manhattan Co-Performers of the Meet by the coaching staff.
Brown swam a 29.54 opening leg of the 200 medley relay to begin the night, putting her team in position for a first place finish. Brown also clocked a 1:01.27 in the 100 butterfly to earn top honors in the event by just over two seconds.
Buckley swam very well, finishing first in two events on the night. In the 100 freestyle, the sophomore touched in at 56.71 to defeat her nearest opponent by .34 seconds. She also swam the final leg of the 200 freestyle relay in a time of 25.88, the fastest split on the team.
Blood also earned first place finishes in two races on the evening. The freshman clocked a 2:08.38 in the 200 freestyle, edging her closest competitor by .11 seconds. She also took the top time in the 500 freestyle with a mark of 5:42.31, which was almost 4.5 seconds better than the second place finisher.
With the win, head coach Walter Olsewski sits just two victories shy of 200 for his coaching career.
The Jaspers return to action on Monday, January 26, when the team travels cross-borough to take on St. Francis Brooklyn. The meet is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
