MONTREAL, Que. – On Thursday night, the Manhattan College women's basketball team continued its four-game Canadian tour with a matchup at McGill, a nationally-ranked squad that was last season's Quebec provincial champions. Unfortunately, it was the Marlets who came out on top, as the Jaspers were handed their first loss of the trip, 68-46, at Love Competition Hall.
McGill got off to a fast start and had a 20-14 lead after one quarter. The second quarter was lower scoring, and the Marlets' advantage at halftime was 32-22. After McGill extended the margin to 49-33 after three periods, the Marlets outscored the Jaspers 19-13 in the fourth quarter to finish off the 68-46 victory.
Shayna Ericksen (Long Valley, N.J.) paced the Jaspers with 12 points and Jacqui Thompson (Southampton, Pa.) handed out eight assists.
Alexandria Kiss-Rusk, a transfer from Virginia Tech, had a double-double for McGill with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Mariam Sylla, last season's Quebec Player of the Year, added 10 boards, while Jennifer Silver, the 2013-14 Quebec Rookie of the Year, notched a game-high 14 points.
The Jaspers conclude the trip on Friday night, when they take on the Universite du Quebec a Montreal (UQAM).
