HELLERTOWN, Pa. - The Jaspers concluded the 36-hole Lafayette Invitational in 13th place, finishing with a team score of 623 (+55).
Following a very respectable round one score of 76 (+5), senior Chris Calabro had a stellar outing in the final round of the tournament, posting a 71 (E) and finishing as Manhattan's top golfer of the tournament. Calabro's 2-day total of 147 (+5) placed him seventh individually at the invitational.
"When it came down to it, the strongest part of my game was putting...whether it was to save a par or get a key birdie," Calabro said.
"I didn't feel the conditions played a major role in the outcome, but you had to be deliberate on approach shots. The greens were probably the hardest part of the golf course; they were much quicker than they looked," Calabro added.
After a tough first day, sophomore James Edgeworth improved upon his 87 (+16) by shooting a 74 (+3) in round two to earn the Jaspers second lowest number of the day.
Seniors Paul Toohey and Jonathan Feuer scored very well in round one by hitting a 75 (+4) and 76 (+5) respectively, but neither one could find the same form on day two as they each rounded out the day with scores of 83 (+12).
"Team-wise, we're very close; we're not peaking just yet, but we're very close. We want that to be at the MAAC Championships. We're very excited," said Calabro.
The Jaspers return to action on Saturday, April 12, when they compete in the Fairleigh Dickinson University Invitational. The tournament will be held at the Crystal Springs Country Club in Hamburg, N.J.
