LAKE BUENA VISTA, FLA. - Manhattan concluded the final round of the 2014 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Tournament with a team score of 308 (+20), tying Fairfield for the lowest round of any team on the final day of competition. The Jaspers did not, however, make up any ground on the team ahead of them, and finished the weekend in fourth place.
Despite finishing in fourth, Manhattan ended the 54-hole competition just one stroke behind Monmouth and Fairfield, who tied for second place. Saint Peter's finished in first place with a three-day score of 931 (+67), three strokes ahead of the two second place schools.
Senior Chris Calabro stepped up in a major way for the Jaspers on the final day of the tournament, finishing his Sunday with a one-over 73 to complete the Championship tied for third place overall. "It was a good tournament and a good way to finish," Calabro said. "We have a really cool team, a great group of guys that have each other's backs. Just to say we competed and almost won is amazing for us."
Fellow senior Jonathan Feuer concluded his final round with a very respectable 78 (+6), the same score he achieved in Saturday's round two. Feuer finished the tournament tied for eighth place.
The other Jasper to end the tournament within the top 20 in individual scoring was sophomore James Edgeworth, who posted a final round 77 (+5), placing him tied for 13th.
Following the tournament, Jaspers head coach Jerry Wood said, "The team showed real grit and integrity; the tournament put Manhattan golf back on the map."
The fourth-place finish is the Jaspers best result in the tournament since 2001.
