MALVERN, Pa. - The Jaspers enjoyed a successful first day of play at the Wildcat Invitational on Monday afternoon. All five Manhattan golfers have completed the first two rounds of the tournament, but 25 golfers from five different schools will conclude their second round on Tuesday prior to the start of the final 18 holes. Play was suspended early Monday evening due to darkness.
Only five golfers had lower scores than Jaspers senior Paul Toohey after the first round of action at the White Manor Country Club. Toohey opened his season with a very impressive 73 (+2) in the opening round of play in which Manhattan teed off shortly after 8:15 a.m.
No other Jasper shot in the 70s in round one, but Manhattan put up a lower team score in the second round despite Toohey concluding his afternoon with an 80 (+9) in round two. Senior Jonathan Feuer and sophomore James Edgeworth shot 76 (+5) and 78 (+7) respectively, in the second round, where the Jaspers improved upon their team score from the morning by two strokes.
The final round of the invitational is set to begin Tuesday morning following the conclusion of round two.
