Women's Lacrosse Soars Past Saint Joseph's for First Win of Season

Box Score

RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Jaspers played their most complete game of the spring on Saturday afternoon as they left Gaelic Park with a 13-6 victory over the Saint Joseph's Hawks. Manhattan picked up its first win and moved to 1-4 on the season.

Five consecutive Manhattan goals over the final 13:41 of the first half gave the Jaspers an 8-3 edge at the break, a lead they would hold the rest of the game. Sophomore Kaitlyn Cunningham broke the 3-3 tie with her second goal of the game to put the Jaspers ahead by one. Freshman Darby Nolan, sophomore Megan Yarusso, and juniors Donna Jo DiNorcia and Domenica O'Brey would all follow with goals before the first half horn sounded.

Sophomore Stefanie Ranagan, who was phenomenal on draws, tallied the first goal in the second half to give the Jaspers a 9-3 advantage and cap off a 6-0 run. Ranagan had two goals on the day and controlled 11 draws. The Jaspers held a 16-5 advantage in draw controls on the afternoon.

Yarusso and O'Brey also finished the game with two goals apiece. Cunningham led the team with four points in the game, including a hat trick.

Defensively, Manhattan was very strong. Junior starting goalkeeper Christina Fiorinelli collected a team-high six ground balls and made six saves. Fellow junior Caitlin Hynes was solid on the back line, picking up four ground balls and causing one turnover. The Jaspers held the Hawks to just 19 shots the whole game.

Head coach Elizabeth Weber picked up her first win at the helm of the program. Following the game, Weber said, "We played well as a team and conquered our first 60-minute battle from start to finish. The team that showed up today is the team I know can play and work hard."

"I am proud of our accomplishments today and it's another step forward to getting better for Manhattan College lacrosse," Weber added.

The Jaspers return to action on Saturday, March 15, when they travel to Dover, Del., to take on the Delaware State Hornets at 1 p.m.
