GAME INFORMATION
The Jaspers (1-1) play their only home contest in a seven-game stretch by welcoming Patriot League preseason favorite Army (1-1) to Draddy Gymnasium this afternoon. Manhattan is coming off its first victory of the season, a 66-60 triumph at Holy Cross on Sunday afternoon. The Black Knights, meanwhile, picked up their first win of the year, a 68-59 victory over Stony Brook, on Tuesday. This will be Manhattan's last appearance in Riverdale until Dec. 17. Up next, the Jaspers begin a five-game road trip at La Salle (0-2) on Tuesday afternoon.
THE JASPERS
Manhattan (1-1) knocked off Holy Cross 66-60 on Sunday afternoon for its first win of the 2014-15 campaign. Junior forward Shayna Ericksen recorded her second straight double-double to open the season against Holy Cross, finishing with 23 points and 10 rebounds. For the season, Ericksen is averaging 16.5 points and 11.0 points per game. She also paces the Jaspers with 2.0 steals per contest and a .556 field goal percentage. Freshman guard Nyasha Irizarry adds 10.0 points per outing to go along with 3.0 assists per game, while sophomore guard Maeve Parahus and senior forward Ashley Stec contribute 8.0 points per game apiece. Freshman guard Taylor Williams tallies 5.5 rebounds per contest, and junior guard Jacqui Thompson distributes a team-high 5.0 assists per outing. After today's game, the Jaspers don't return to Draddy Gymnasium for almost a month. Manhattan visits La Salle on Tuesday to open a five-game road trip.
THE BLACK KNIGHTS
Army (1-1) picked up its first win of the season on Tuesday night, knocking off Stony Brook 68-59. Junior guard Kelsey Minato, the two-time reigning Patriot League Player of the Year, paces the Black Knights with an average of 18.0 points per game. Junior forward/center Aimee Oertner and senior forward Olivia Schretzman add 10.5 points per outing apiece, while junior forward Brianna Johnson records 10.0 points a night. Schretzman is also Army's top rebounder. She pulls down 5.0 boards per outing, and Oertner leads the team with 2.0 blocks per contest and a .643 field goal percentage. Junior guard/forward Jean Parker, meanwhile, paces the Black Knights with 2.0 three-pointers per game. After winning the Patriot League championship and advancing to the NCAA Tournament last season, the Black Knights were picked to defend their title in the Patriot League Preseason Poll. Army returns home on Tuesday night for its annual matchup with Air Force.
MANHATTAN VS. ARMY ALL-TIME
Manhattan and Army are meeting for the seventh consecutive season and the 16th time in program history. The Black Knights notched a 66-52 victory last year in West Point and have won three straight against the Jaspers. Manhattan's last win over Army was a 56-42 triumph at Draddy Gymnasium on Dec. 30, 2010. Overall, Manhattan holds an 8-7 edge in the all-time series.
LAST GAME
The Jaspers rallied back from a nine-point second half deficit to post their first win of the season, 66-60, at Holy Cross on Sunday afternoon. Manhattan trailed 32-24 at halftime and was down 53-44 with 8:52 left before going on an 11-0 run to take the lead. Jacqui Thompson went 1-for-2 at the line to make it a 62-20 game with 18 seconds left, but Shayna Ericksen grabbed the rebound on the second and was fouled. She sank both free throws to increase the margin to four points, as the Jaspers pulled away for a six-point, 66-60, win. Ericksen had her second straight double-double to open the season, finishing with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Nyasha Irizarry chipped in 11 points and five rebounds, while Ashley Stec added eight points and Taylor Williams grabbed eight boards.
