NEWARK, N.J. - The Manhattan men's swimming and diving team earned a split with NJIT and St. Francis Brooklyn on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Terriers 188-71 and falling to the Highlanders 150-112. The women's side earned a slim, hard fought victory over St. Francis Brooklyn 133-123 in their only meet of the day.
With the split, the men move to 3-1 on the season. The women improve to 2-1 with the win.
Women
Sophomore Patricia Colton and freshman Alexandra Hutzler were tabbed Manhattan Women's Swimmers of the Meet.
Colton took first place in both the 50 and 100 freestyle events, swimming to times of 26.06 and 57.20, respectively. Her time in the 50 race earned a top time by 1.15 seconds.
Hutzler continued her stellar run of performances to open her freshman campaign, racing to first place finishes in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events, as well as the 200 individual medley. Hutzler's time of 1:09.44 in the 100 provided her with a comfortable victory of over 7 seconds. She followed that up by clocking in at an impressive 2:32.94 in the 200 to beat her closest opponent by over 10 seconds. The freshman also finished at 2:14.99 in the 200 individual medley.
Hutzler's times in the 100 breaststroke and 200 individual medley set school records. The freshman has now broken three school marks in her first three meets as a Jasper.
Both Colton and Hutzler also swam as part of a 400 medley relay squad, along with senior Kerry Schuermann and sophomore Sara Buckley, that earned a first place finish.
Men
Senior Mike Mackay and freshman Neil Perry took home Manhattan Men's Swimmers of the Meet honors.
Mackay swam to first place finishes in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke races, with times of 1:00.52 and 2:13.84. His slimmest margin of victory in the two events was greater than 2 seconds.
Perry won first place in three individual events (the 50 and 100 freestyle and the 100 butterfly). He also anchored the winning 200 freestyle relay with a time of 21.37.
Perry's times included 21.70 in the 50 free, 48.23 in the 100 free and 52.39 in the 100 fly.
The Jaspers return to action on Saturday, Nov. 8, when both the men's and women's teams compete in a tri-meet with Saint Peter's and Montclair State at 1 p.m. in Jersey City, N.J.
