RIVERHEAD, N.Y. - Sophomore Michael Giannico shot a one-under 70 in the opening round of the Dowling College September Shoot-out on Friday, en route to a third place finish over the weekend. His combined score of 150 led a Manhattan squad that placed sixth out of 15 teams.
Giannico's opening round score was one of only three under par scores in the tournament. The sophomore posted an 80 on Saturday to finish third. Jonathan Feuer was the next best performer for the Jaspers as he shot a 167 over two days.
James Edgeworth improved his first round 87 to an 84 on day two, giving him a tournament score of 171. One stroke behind him was fellow sophomore Ross Ketner who drastically improved upon his opening round 92 by shooting an 80 on Saturday.
Mike Schutsky also competed for the Jaspers, posting a two-day score of 176 (82 and 96) on the weekend. As a team, Manhattan's combined score was 650 which placed them in sixth. They finished four strokes behind host Dowling for fifth place.
Adelphi took the team title with a combined score of 614 while LeMoyne's John Clare won the individual title, defeating Adelphi's Dylan Daxon in a playoff.
Manhattan returns to competition on Oct. 14 when they take on Wagner in a dual meet at Huntington Country Club on Long Island.
