Jaspers Prep For Championship Season at Paul Short Run

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - With "championship season" set to begin at next weekend's Metropolitan Championships, the Manhattan College men's and women's cross country teams were in action against an elite field at the Brooks Paul Short Run from Lehigh University on Friday afternoon.  Running in the "brown" race, the Jasper men finished 26th in the team standings.  The Manhattan women placed 35th in the "brown" race.

Leading the way for the men's squad was Tom Voorheis (Syracuse, N.Y.), who completed the 8000-meter course in 26:13, which was good enough for 38th place.  Stephen Chantry (Williamsburg, Va.) finished 127th in 27:17, while Greg Perrier (Dix Hills, N.Y.) secured 171st place with a time of 27:59.  Kevin O'Brien (Attleboro, Mass.) had a 175th-place showing.  He posted a 28:02 clocking.  Shane Beyer (Brick, N.J.) just edged Billy Wilkens (Kenmore, Wash.) for the Jaspers' fifth scoring place.  Beyer was 186th overall (28:23) and Wilkens placed 187th (28:25).

As a team, Manhattan collected 697 points.  Penn won the "brown" race with 47 team points.

Alyssa Windle (Redlands, Calif.) was Manhattan's top finisher on the women's side.  She ran 24:20 for 6000 meters to place 146th overall.  Elizabeth Rosenberger (Ramsey, N.J.) posted a time of 24:23, which was good for 155th place.  Rachel Lottermann (Washington Township, N.J.) was 180th in 24:39, while Alexandra Cappello (Scarsdale, N.Y.) captured 201st place (25:00) and Johanna Petruski (Toms River, N.J.) rounded out the Jaspers' top five (214th, 25:13).  Emmy Koskinen (Sodertalje, Sweden) (220th, 25:16) and Erica Brady (Quincy, Mass.) (235th, 25:42) also collected team points.

With 896 points in the team competition, Manhattan placed 35th overall.  Pitt finished with 124 team points to win the women's "brown" race.

The Paul Short Run was the Jaspers' final meet before the Metropolitan Championships, which will take place next Friday at Van Cortlandt Park.  Competition gets underway at 2 p.m.
